FDOT Approves Complete Street and Traffic Study of Hillsboro Blvd in Deerfield Beach

Now I received the following email today from FDOT indicating that on March 22, 2012 the City of Deerfield Beach sent them a letter requesting that they perform a full and complete traffic study on Hillsboro Blvd from Natura to Dixie.

Please note that FDOT on March 13, 2012 had agreed to come out to Hillsboro and MLK and perform a study for that specific area...just like the yellow truncated domes which they approved 4 months earlier, but City of Deerfield Beach got involved and 4 months later well...the FACTS speak for themselves!!!


However, I can say that the yellow truncated domes have been installed at that intersection as of Thursday March 29, 2012.

Now this was on March 22, 2012, but according to Burgess Hanson at last nights City Commission meeting they have been on this since the beginning, but they have just not been out in the public with what they were doing.

Well, it would seem that every time new information comes to light about this situation the City is always a day late and a dollar short, but hey I am not going to look a gift horse in the mouth.  

If the City Management and Commissioners are now taking an interest and are on board with the CITIZENS of District 2, GOOD!

This is a follow-up to my March 2012 email to you in which I stated that the Department will conduct an additional intersection operations field assessment at the subject intersection to confirm whether left turn phases for north and southbound traffic should be installed.

In response to a March 22, 2012 letter from the City of Deerfield Beach to Mr. Mark Plass, PE, District Traffic Operations Engineer that requests the Department to conduct a traffic study on Hillsboro Boulevard from Natura Boulevard to Dixie Highway, we have agreed to conduct a comprehensive study along that corridor.  That road segment includes the intersection at Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard so essentially the intersection operations study we agreed to conduct will be expanded to include a comprehensive traffic operations review along Hillsboro Boulevard approximately 900 feet west of and 2100 feet east of Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard.

I expect this comprehensive study to yield any recommended safety and operational improvements for pedestrian and motorist street lighting, any improvements for pedestrian safety, any needed traffic signal phase (left turn arrow) changes at existing signalized intersections, and whether a pedestrian traffic signal in the vicinity of NW 2 Avenue is warranted and appropriate.  The study will begin soon and I anticipate the final study report will be completed and forwarded to the City of Deerfield Beach within nine weeks.

At least we are now making progress toward a safer Deerfield Beach for District 2 and Deerfield Beach.
